Spread the love

We went to Cobourg on the weekend for the Rotary Ribfest.  I wanted to stop at the Antique store next t Meet at 66 King East.  I was in there a couple months ago and saw a hand vase that I should have bought, but didn’t.  So…I thought I’d see if it was still hanging around (it wasn’t).

I saw this piece and fell in love.  It was more expensive than I usually pay so I couldn’t buy it without some research.  Came home, researched, went back the next day and bought it.

This is my first piece of Northwood Glass.  It was made in the first decade of the 20th century.  It is carnival glass.  This piece is white with a coloured irridesence.  The pattern extends down the stem of the compote.  Very intricate and very pretty.  The pattern comes in a number of beautiful colours and on other pieces as well.

The more I read about Carnival glass and the more pieces I see, the more interest I have.  I have another Northwood piece coming in the mail  Looking forward to seeing it.
